Tibet, the very name evokes feeling of awe and mystery. A land of ancient Buddhist culture, awesome landscapes, artistic monasteries, exotic cities, hidden valleys and centuries-old caravan trails, Tibet offers a totally different experience. Known as the Roof of the World, it is the destination for ultimate thrill -seeker. The Kathmandu is the natural gateway to this amazing land. Once the center of the ancient trade route connecting India and Tibet. Fine transport connections exit between Kathmandu and Lhasa, the capital of the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China. You can go overland on a scenic highway that retraces the old caravan trail or take a spectacular flight over the Himalaya. The one-hour flight to Lhasa is an adventure in itself. Taking off from Kathmandu, the plane flies alongside the eastern Himalayas as far as Mt. Everest and then turns north with gigantic snow peaks filing up the left-hand side windows. Son, the mountains drop away and you are gliding across the barren Tibetan plateau to touch down at Gonggar Airport, 85 km from Lhasa.

About the facilities for tourist in Tibet:
Most importantly, all travelers traveling in Tibet are kindly requested to bear in mind that Tibet being extremely remote and isolated by the most formidable Himalayan ranges remains still one of the most captivating but least developed parts in the world. With its very short history of tourism - just about 9 years, the facilities for tourists although being upgraded are still at basic and limited scale. So, the visitors are requested not to have high expectation in terms of facilities in Tibet. However, we will always put all our efforts to make your journey as pleasant as possible.
Besides, the road between Tibet and Nepal is not up to the standard. It is rough, bumpy and full of bends. Particularly, during monsoon ( June - August), It can be temporarily obstructed by landslide and erosion. So, a bit sporty wears and shoes are much advised facilitating the travelers to walk over the landslide - specially in the Nepal portion.
Tour departure time:
The overland tour to Tibet starts at 5 AM from SATYAM TOURS & TRAVEL Office located in Thamel, Kathmandu. You'll report and embark on your journey to the friendship bridge (116 Kms / 6 hrs drive). Enroute, breakfast stop is made at the Dhulikhel Lodge Resort. An early start is made on the fist day as China time is 2 hours 15 minutes ahead of Nepal time in winter and 3 hours 15 minutes in summer.
After completing immigration formalities on the Nepal side, you'll drive uphill to Zhangmu (8 kms / 45 minutes ) immigration post. Our Tibetan representative and Guide will meet you here and will take care of your entire tour arrangement.
Overcoming altitude problem:
Traveling in Tibet is an adventure involving high altitude and could be strenuous. So far, most visitors have only minor effects from the altitude. However, we advise specially the guests with known heart or lunges or blood diseases to consult their doctor before traveling. Mild headache, fever, loss of appetite or stomach disorder can take place before acclimatization. Our advice: Drink 4 liter of water minimum a day, don't exhaust yourself so much and breathe deep and take rest more than usual.
Booking condition:
Confirmed reservation should reach us 2 weeks prior to tour departure date along with non-refundable deposit, equivalent of 50% of total tour cost per person. Thereafter, we will process visa for you. While making your booking, we require full passport detail including (a) Name in full (b) Sex (c) Date & Place of birth (d) Profession (e) Nationality (f) Passport Number (g) Date of issue and expire (h) Home address, contact Tel, Fax and Email and 2 PP sized photograph.

A Normal visa fee is applicable if the visa is processed on 5 full working day basis with a condition that client should be available in Kathmandu, otherwise urgent charge will have to borne by the client. An urgent fee of US$ 10 additional is applicable for the visa to be processed in 3 days and US$ 20 additional fee is charged by the China Embassy for the visa to be processed within a day. The Embassy of China is open every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday from 10 Am -11 Am for China / Tibet Visa. Please notice: China / Tibet Visa fee can be changed at any time without pre-information.
Cancellation:
There will be cancellation charge of 50% for confirmed booking up to 7 days prior to departure whereas, no refund thereafter. No refund for no-shows & delay arrival whatsoever reason.
Clothing:
Casual were and comfortable walking shoes are the rule for Tibet. Be sure to bring warm clothing as nights and early mornings can be quite chilly to downright cold in winter months. Bring all the film, medicine, cosmetics, personal toilet items, etc. That you will need from home, as these are difficult if not impossible to obtain in Tibet. A small first aid kit is also a good idea.
Kathmandu to Lhasa road:
The journey from Kathmandu to Lhasa by road should be viewed as an adventure, not sightseeing tour by bus. The road itself was poorly constructed and is prone to closer by landslides, particularly from June through September. It can be very dusty and some kind of facemask is a good idea. As you drive to altitudes of over 17000 feet at some points, altitude sickness becomes a real possibility and most will feel some symptoms. You must make sure to drink plenty of fluids to help you acclimatize. The choice of hotels en-route (except Lhasa) is extremely limited. Hotels are basic with showers, flush toilet, a small shop, a restaurant and laundry facilities only. Food is not readily available en-route until the stopover hotels are reached. We recommend you carry packed lunch from the hotels. We suggest you bring a canteen or water bottle with purification tablet or a water filter pump and refill your bottles at every opportunity. Meals en-route (until Lhasa) tend to be greasy and you may want to bring snacks or other foodstuff with you. We therefore suggest you to carry Tinned food, Biscuits, chocolates, Cheese, Drinking chocolate/coffee, Soup cubes, Instant noodles, vegemite, Nuts and Raisins, Chewing gums etc.
Insurance:
Full travel insurance coverage, particularly for trip cancellation and interruption is strongly recommended.
Currency:
The unit of currency for foreigners is Yuan, US $ 1 = 8 Yuan. Money can be exchanged at The Bank of China at Zhangmu, Xigatse and Lhasa. In case the banks are closed we suggest you ask for a loan from your guide.

SATYAM TOURS & TRAVEL will put every effort to make your journey very smooth & pleasant. However, all the programs in Tibet are conducted strictly under the rules and regulation of Tibet Tourism Bureau.
